Director of Central Services
Salary: Competitive six figure salary, bonus and incentives


Our client is a large, multi-million turnover retail business with a complex structure of franchise and in-house stores, and a focus across a number of different retail sectors.

Following a recent reshape of the SLT, the position of Director of Central Services has been established and offers an interesting and varied position to a high calibre, commercial individual. This is a board level position and it is envisaged the post holder will have undertaken a similar strategic level position, contributing to the direction and success of a business or significant part of a business, previously.

The Director of Central Services will take direct strategic and directional responsibility for a number of technical functions within the business including IT infrastructure, central Customer Services, business wide Facilities Management, Compliance (including H&S and Enterprise Risk Management). The position will hold accountability for significant P&L cost management, directing teams serving a diverse internal customer base and ensuring continuous improvement in their business functions.

The post holder will deliver business critical services needed to achieve the profit targets, wider strategic growth objectives, and risk management strategies of the trading businesses, harnessing economies of scale and synergy from delivery of common service needs, as identified and documented from time to time.

Furthermore, they will ensure appropriate and cost effective legal, risk and wider governance frameworks are maintained to achieve compliance with relevant requirements, based on risk assessment, and consistent with Board Risk appetite, Society Rules, and Values.

Key Role Focus

Effective identification and delivery of operational improvement strategies within areas of responsibility.
Financial performance compared to budget for relevant cost centres.
Corporate strategic procurement targets for continuous improvement in service delivery / value equation and speed of execution.
Vendor feedback loop on sustained successful relationships with key partners
SLA performance by the internal shared service providers under control of this role.
Successful deployment of tech stack investment to drive increased efficiency / lower cost.
Delivery of medium-term FM investment programme to deliver increased levels of resilience in the operating fabric of the trading businesses without increasing costs
Central Customer Service response metrics.
On time enabling work to facilitate growth in trading businesses.
Corporate insurance total net cost.
Compliance with FCA Conduct Rules.
Risk Management Framework: action on mitigating actions.
Compliance with UK Corporate Governance Code of Best Practice, and broader guidance for companies where appropriate.
