Plant Manager
Salary: Very competitive with flexibility for the ideal candidate


Our client is the UK’s largest manufacturer of fabricated metal profiles with international manufacturing centres, all strategically sited to serve customers across five continents.

By investing in people, they work collaboratively with customers across a range of sectors. The customer is a priority whether the challenge is manufacturing high volume standardised products or designing, prototyping, testing and delivering customised solutions.

With core operations based in the West Midlands and 650 staff across the world they are continuing to build on 50 years of success and a world class reputation for quality. Their growth plans over the next three years are impressive yet achievable with the right people in place.

With recent internal promotion, they are now looking to appoint an individual to lead one of their manufacturing divisions to implement change and drive planned growth. The division will continue to grow by 20% year on year over the next 3 years with an emphasis on profitability at all time. The next steps for the division centre on: greater implementation and consistent use of lean manufacturing methods; structural change to effect better use of skills and experience; improved communication and increased engagement of the workforce.

The Role

Manage and develop the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the division within the Group model delivering industry-leading and sustained world class manufacturing performance.

Provide operational leadership to the division, covering production, quality, health, safety, environment and maintenance, in order to exceed customer expectations, maximising efficiency, optimising production levels and driving excellence.

The role centres on operational management of a fast-paced continuous manufacturing facility and as such any candidate should demonstrate a strong track record in taking similar manufacturing operations through change, improvement and growth. The implementation and consistent application of effective lean techniques is important and of greatest importance is the ability to successfully lead a skilled workforce.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education and Qualification(s)

A qualification in an appropriate specialist field: preferably Bachelor or Master in Mechanical Engineering

Membership of trade associations and/or relevant professional bodies

Management qualification preferred e.g. ILM level 5

Experience:

  • Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to engage, enthuse and optimise team performance and development
  • Track record of successful implementation of LEAN and Continuous Improvement and delivering effective operational strategies, policies and systems

Core Competencies

Core competencies (Technical)

  • ERP system (BAAN or LN) appreciation
  • Lean, Continuous Improvement techniques, World Class Manufacturing
  • Commercially and financially astute, including budgeting

Opportunity

This person will work collaboratively with the Senior Management to lead the performance and change to develop and improve its offering.
