Regional Director (Construction – Retail)
Salary: Executive salary, bonus and package


Our client is multi-million pound turnover multi-disciplined building contractor with offices nationally. Across the regions, they service a broad range of clients within retail, commercial, industrial, food and education.

The business provides a full spectrum of services, from traditional building through to comprehensive design and build solutions.

Projects include new build retail shell and fit-outs, dotcom facilities, new build industrial units and warehouses, commercial and office space fit-outs, commercial space conversions, food production facilities, student accommodation and pub conversions.

As a result of their ongoing success and continued growth in the Southern region, the business has a requirement to hire a Regional Director to run their operation based near to Crawley in West Sussex. The successful appointee will hold strategic, operational and P&L responsibilities. He/she will be responsible for contributing to and implementing the strategic plans to achieve the agreed regional objectives, driving the business day to day.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong leadership and credibility both internally and externally
  • Full P&L responsibility for the regional performance
  • Assist in developing strategic objectives and business plan and subsequent implementation thereof
  • Drive the continued success of existing and established business, driving continuous improvement throughout the region
  • Responsibility for the day to day operational running of the business
  • Ability to successfully build the team

  • Rapidly become acquainted with the company management style and operational practice; gaining a strong understanding and blending well with the culture, markets and customer base
  • Develop strong and constructive relationships at a high level with existing and potential customers as well as influencing and negotiating effectively
  • Develop and enhance existing systems, controls and structures to continue to drive the organisation in the region towards the highest standards in delivery and service capabilities
  • Build and maintain a growth orientated, customer-focused culture with accountability, transparency, high commitment and team work as shared values
  • Take an active role at monthly Board Meetings and regular Senior Management meetings
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the SMT including the other Regional Directors to achieve the company’s goals, keeping open lines of communication

The Person

The new Regional Director will have proven successful operational leadership experience within a contracting business, servicing clients within the retail sector.

  • Candidates will have gained experience within a main contracting business, servicing clients within retail. This could be a regional arm of a national main contractor or alternatively a regional contractor in the South East region.
  • Exceptional skills in communication, motivation, and interpersonal relations and able to convey a message that is understandable and relevant, linking business issues, financial results and strategy
  • A charismatic leader who clearly demonstrates an ability to empower and motivate a team.
  • Experience of operating at the highest level of professionalism and personal integrity
  • The successful candidate will have a passion for continuous improvement and a strong sense of accountability.
