Head of UK Operations

Our client is the UK’s largest manufacturer of fabricated metal profiles with international manufacturing centres, all strategically sited to serve customers across five continents.

By investing in people, they work collaboratively with customers across a range of sectors. The customer is a priority whether the challenge is manufacturing high volume standardised products or designing, prototyping, testing and delivering customised solutions.

With core operations based in the West Midlands and 650 staff across the world they are continuing to build on 50 years of success and a world class reputation for quality. Their growth plans over the next three years are impressive yet achievable with the right people in place.

In light of their need to adapt and drive the business as they grow, they are now looking to appoint an individual as part of the Senior Management Team to lead the strategic vision and delivery of their UK Operations activity. The group will continue to grow by 20% year on year over the next 3 years with an emphasis on profitability at all time and this role will take significant responsibility on the UK Operations being fit to deliver that through this period and beyond.

The Role

Define and implement the company’s strategic operational plan which accommodates significant planned growth, increased productivity, logistical demand, quality and yield and yet reduces the time taken to get new products to market.

Provide operational leadership to the UK businesses, covering production, quality, health, safety, environment and maintenance, in order to exceed customer expectations, maximising efficiency, optimising production levels and driving excellence.

The role centres on operational management of multi-site, fast-paced continuous manufacturing business and as such any candidate should demonstrate a strong track record in taking similar manufacturing operations through change, improvement and growth. The implementation and consistent application of effective lean techniques is important and of greatest importance is the ability to successfully lead a skilled workforce.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education and Qualification(s):

  • Engineering degree
  • Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement qualification

Experience:

  • Proven leadership and management skills within a multi-site operation with the ability to engage, enthuse and optimise team performance and development
  • Previous experience of successfully applying and maintaining the principles and tools of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement; (Qualification preferable)
  • Strong leadership with a verifiable track record of successfully leading organisational change through a defined transitional process

Opportunity

The Head of UK Operations position is an exciting and challenging appointment. The role is a key one and will play an important part in the group and taking full responsibility for the direction of and execution of operational performance. This person will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to lead the performance and change to develop and improve its offering. The role will have full support from the Board of Directors to build and develop: they are open minded to adapt as necessary.
