Group Finance Director / CFO
Salary: £100,000 base salary + benefits
Our client is a Group organisation combined of an engineering, marine infrastructure & environmental hydraulics consultancy, a research business that solves some of the world's most complex problems in water infrastructure and a 70-acre business park. On the engineering side, an unrivalled research programme underpins a unique mix of knowledge, assets and facilities that include state of the art physical modelling laboratories, a full range of powerful numerical modelling tools and, above all, enthusiastic people with unmatched skills and expertise. Reporting into the CEO there is a key requirement to recruit an experienced permanent Group FD to be based at the UK HQ in Oxfordshire. The Group has offices in Australia China, Malaysia, India, UAE and the US.
Role & Responsibilities
The FD will have a range of key responsibilities that include the following:
Full P&L ownership, with accountability and strong cost management ethos across the Group
Rigorous control of the balance sheet and management of the working capital / cash flow position of the group. Note that this includes overseas locations.
Management and leadership of the Finance & Legal function
Appraisal, upgrading and maintenance of the financial systems to minimise risk, increase efficiency in the Finance & Legal function and produce meaningful business indicators
As a Group and subsidiary company Board Director, direct involvement and presenting to the Board(s) the financial state of the business, regulatory matters and risk management activities, and other Board governance activities
Prepare and present monthly reports to the CEO and management team with insightful information and analysis
Management of legal, Company Secretarial and insurance matters for the Group
Ensure compliance with applicable taxes, including significant R&D Tax credit claims (UK), s469 corporation tax exemption (UK) and payroll/indirect/corporation taxes in all locations Support to prepare and help implement the strategic, annual and operating plans within which is a detailed budget
Support CEO and Board in developing strategy, new commercial opportunities within both the technical company across a range of services including research, consultancy, software and equipment sales, and the business park
Manage key relationships with banks, legal advisors, auditors, and other external partners and advisors. Within this is the relationship with the Trustees and advisors to the Group’s defined benefit pension scheme (now closed).
Suitable candidates will have the following background, experience and traits:
Highly competent & qualified accountant, with a strong core background of financial analysis and control including significant international experience. The candidate must be FCA, ACA or Scottish CA (Chartered Accountant - ICAEW or ICAS) qualified.
Proven track record of delivery in a SME business, with perhaps sector experience in professional services and / or maybe added experience in any of the following markets; research, property, software or manufacturing
A background of successful change management, commercial / financial analysis to aid strategic decision making; dually considering the bigger picture and the underpinning detail
Comprehensive understanding of Financial Reporting, Audit and Tax requirements – Experience of defined benefit pension schemes is an advantage.
Strong communication and senior stakeholder management skills, who can gain credibility at all levels of an organisation. A resilient and robust character.
Must have presence, ability to effect change, introduce systems that are practical and ensure that any systems set up are not ignored or changed
