Chief Executive Officer
Pentathlon GB is the national governing body for the Olympic summer sport of Modern Pentathlon (fencing, swimming, riding, running and pistol shooting). Since the Sydney Olympics we have been very successful at winning Olympic medals - Gold and Bronze in Sydney, Bronze in Athens, Silver in Beijing and Silver in London 2012 -and in securing funding to support our participation and world class aspirations. We are now looking to achieve major ambitions by growing our sport and continuing its sustained success internationally.
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and dynamic Chief Executive Officer with strong leadership, drive and energy to lead our organisation, building on the success of London 2012 with a view to medal success at Rio 2016 and beyond.
The CEO will have overall operational responsibility for developing the sport in accordance with the Board’s strategic direction, in order to achieve our purpose of providing a framework to attract, grow and retain life-long involvement in Modern Pentathlon.
The key areas of development for the role are:
Refreshing the existing strategy to ensure that we have the required resources to meet our objectives, maintaining effective coordination of all our activities toward common goals.
Meeting challenging targets across the whole range of the sport’s interests, from grassroots to podium success.
Developing our commercial ambitions, driving our commercial strategy to locate additional funding streams (in conjunction with sponsors and other stakeholders) and secure short and long term sponsorship.
Implementing and realising the outcomes from our recently completed review of the national competition programme to increase accessibility and public awareness of our sport.
Knowledge and Experience
The successful candidate must demonstrate commercial acumen and the leadership qualities necessary to drive us forward.
You must be able to:
Lead and manage Pentathlon GB’s staff and volunteers effectively as a cohesive team, easily forming successful working relationships and partnerships to enable the delivery of projects, on time and on budget.
Demonstrate a passion for sport and an understanding of its role at all levels. In addition, knowledge of the public funding of sport would be an advantage.
Prove your financial experience, including budgeting, together with commercial expertise and the ability to apply it in a sporting environment.Prove managerial experience, including the ability to delegate, and to work closely with a Board.
You will be appropriately educated, IT literate and with an established track record.
Pentathlon GB’s Head Office is at the University of Bath at which the successful candidate will be based. Some national and occasional international travel are required.
Pentathlon is a successful and growing sport with an important role to play at the elite and grassroots levels. Pentathlon GB is well placed to lead this ongoing development. The successful candidate will possess a wide range of skills, leadership and determination in fulfilling a demanding leadership role.
