Head of Risk, Compliance and Group Secretary at Furness Building Society

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Head of Risk & Compliance and Group Company Secretary will be ultimately responsible for the FCA Controlled Function for all Group Compliance and Compliance Oversight.

This is a wonderfully varied role with a broad range of responsibilities to include but not be limited to:

  • Oversee the compliance function to ensure that there are compliance arrangements regarding all relevant statutes, regulations and codes of practice, including but not limited to:
  • FCA requirements, both current and new, for the Group
  • The Society’s Training and Competency Schemes to monitor authorise advisers / introducers
  • Ensure timely delivery of the compliance plan, managing appropriate adjustments to address the principle compliance risks and to ensure appropriate reporting of progress and identified issues.
  • Produce an annual or 3 year rolling Risk Based Compliance Plan for approval by Senior Management and Audit Committee
  • Maintain and recommend the Group Risk and Operational Risk Policy to the Management Risk Committee and Board
  • Manage the relationship between the internal auditors and the Society
  • Act as Society Secretary for numerous Boards and Committees and ensure compliance with legislation and regulation appropriate to the position, including the AGM and UK Governance Code
  • Be accountable for the oversight and all management information of Operational risks including responsibility for identification, measurement and reporting of current and emerging risks

Professional Skills and Experience – Essential:

  • A working understanding of the regulatory environment faced by lending and savings institutions in the UK
  • Have a good understanding of managing and mitigating risk
  • Demonstrable experience of senior stakeholder relations skills
  • Ability to write concise minutes.

Professional Skills and Experience – Desired:

  • A working knowledge of the legal requirements of a Company Secretary in a Financial Institution
  • Experience of preparing an annual compliance plan for a financial institution
  • Managing an outsourced internal audit function
  • Working with a regulated sales Training and Competency Scheme
  • Has been a PRA/FCA authorised person for CF10/28.
