Senior Electronic Hardware Design Engineer

Salary: Up to £55k + benefits package

Our client\'s success has been built on its innovative products and it continues to work with researchers at the cutting edge of neuroscience at universities as far afield as Japan. In order to maintain their position as market leaders in their field it is critical that the product design and technology remains state of the art.

The successful candidate will provide electronic hardware design support, this support will focus on the generation of new high (>1kV) voltage and low voltage analogue circuits, plus the support of existing product circuit designs.

The successful appointee will play a key role within the design team, responsible for coaching and mentoring staff ensuring expert knowledge is passed on.


It is essential that the successful appointee can demonstrate experience in the following:

  • Degree in electrical engineering and/or electronics
  • Recent experience of analogue circuit design and implementation using discrete and non-discrete components
  • Project management
  • Principles involved in the design of electronic filters
  • Principles involved in designing analogue to digital interfaces

Furthermore, it is desirable the successful appointee can demonstrate experience in the following:

  • Power electronic design qualified
  • Analogue circuit design
  • Switch mode power supply design
  • EMC compliance testing
  • Design for manufacture
  • Design for test
  • Failure Mode Effect Analysis of electronic circuits
  • PCB design and layout
  • Experience using Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel
  • Generation of design and specifications
  • Verification of new circuits
  • Medical equipment safety standards

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Update the existing product electronic hardware as part of meeting compliance to new standards, component obsolescence or cost reduction
  • The design of new PCB’s plus the update of existing PCB designs
  • Working with external test houses as part of product safety or EMC compliance testing
  • Generate verification procedures and test reports
  • Maintain hardware design documentation
  • Generate Failure Mode Effects Analysis documents
  • Assist in the generation and maintenance of product risk assessments
  • Design new product hardware
  • Project Management
