Our Client

Our client is a fast-pace privately owned niche manufacturing business in Lancashire. This customer centric company has developed a team of excellent senior management with established market and product knowledge plus proven backgrounds in manufacturing. The business provides first class support to clients on the Commercial, R&D, Regulatory, Operational and Logistical side of matters.

The company’s manufacturing is to the highest industry practices, as they supply a broad range of retailer and brand owners in multiple category sectors. The business has an ethos of always developing it’s on-site technologies and infrastructure, keeping up to speed with industry changes so that the facilities are very modern and efficient.

The company has grown at a rapid rate over the last 5 years and wants to further this positive development over the next few years. The ongoing strategy for the business is to continue to invest heavily in it and double its turnover within a few years.

The Role & Opportunity

The owner of the company is looking to recruit a Managing Director who has a track record of growing operations and someone that is up for a fresh challenge. The company has a fully operational board of Directors, encompassing Commercial, Operations, Technical and Finance and each of these individuals reports to the Managing Director.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of working in a customer orientated, flexible and fast paced manufacturing business;
  • A proven track record in improving systems, efficiencies and culture;
  • Experience working in an entrepreneurial private business, rather than just a solely ‘large PLC’ career;

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to become Managing Director in a company that is gearing itself for its next phase of growth, in a group of companies that has an outstanding track record of success.

The Managing Director must:

  • Take ownership of, drive and communicate the vision/strategy
  • Ensure that the business is legally compliant in all areas, particularly health and safety
  • Deliver the growth and profitability targets
  • Ensure that supply chain, operations, technical, logistics, commercial and financial are aligned in their targets
  • Encourage the right mix of customers, from established large brands to brands that are in growth mode
  • Ensure excellent customer satisfaction, including senior level client engagement
  • Manage operational costs by minimising down time, optimising production layouts and engineering requirements
  • Encouraging the R&D of the business in an enthusiastic and controlled way
  • Drive margin improvements by better pricing and cost control
  • Formulate and implement HR policies in agreement with the Board
  • Deliver and demonstrate measured continuous process improvements across all functions

Background, Expertise & Attributes

  • Previous experience driving/leading a growing and successful medium-sized business at Director level
  • Strong leadership qualities supported by excellent communication skills and an ability to motivate others at all levels of the company
