Could you deliver one of the UK’s most significant landmark developments?

YTL Developments (YTLD) is an ambitious, innovative and aspirational company that aims to bring a radical, new approach to development by creating sustainable communities that understand and meet the needs of people. Their ambition is to create neighbourhoods designed to promote the happiness, wellbeing and creativity of the people who live, work and visit them. The Group has a clear history of long-term commitment in the UK with the aim to develop and invest in their businesses for continued growth and return.

YTLD is transforming the former Filton Airfield into Brabazon, a thriving new neighbourhood for Bristol. Located in North Bristol this new urban community has outline planning for 2,675 new homes, 62 acres of employment space, acres of parkland, new schools and education district and a thriving town-centre.

At the heart of Brabazon will be a new arena complex and train station making it one of the most well-connected entertainment districts in the South-West. This 380-acre development is seen as one of the most significant and impactful developments in the region.

The Role

Over the next four years to 2025, YTL Developments intends to undertake a number of major projects including Community Hub, Infrastructure, Parks and Green Spaces and Phase 2 Residential.

The Group is making significant capital investment into this construction programme and with the potential to increase with the inclusion of projects such as Student Accommodation and built to rent apartments.

Having completed the planning and design of the outline mixed-use Brabazon masterplan, primary infrastructure, major transport requirements and Residential Phase 1, the single most important task of the business is the successful delivery of these planned projects before building out the remainder of the scheme.

Key duties/responsibilities

Reporting to the YTL Developments CEO, the Operations Director is responsible for leading the operational functions of YTL Developments.

The Operations Director will:

  • build the capacity and capability of the delivery team to deliver diverse planned projects
  • improve the productivity and effectiveness to achieve acceptable completion targets
  • contribute to the approvals of current projects and future reshaping of Brabazon

Skills / Abilities /Experience

The ideal individual will have significant and demonstrable career experience delivering diverse mixed-use schemes. Degree qualified in a business discipline or similar, this individual will have built their career through project delivery and into a leadership role (ideally 10years+), preferably with board experience.

Proven success in high end, differentiated housing and commercial developments is critical given the complexity of the Brabazon programme so the ability to oversee large scale infrastructure, utility and public park projects is important.

Strong leadership skills and ability to take difficult decisions are naturally important, with the ability to work with a cognitively and culturally diverse senior leadership team and board.

This is a critical and high-profile position carrying significant responsibility for the successful delivery of an important and landmark scheme. This is a long-term project with multiple phases which will focus a great deal of attention on YTL Developments. The Group will continue to invest in other developments nationally so opportunity will arise beyond this project. With succession planning being shaped now, the Operations Director could elevate to a more senior and responsible role in time.

This senior executive appointment will enjoy significant levels of autonomy. The successful candidate will enjoy a stimulating and rewarding high profile role with a genuine opportunity for significant career progression.
