Salary: As a guide, the salary range will likely be between £70,000 and £110,000 p.a.


Our client, Hazlewoods is a leading regional accountancy firm with 24 partners across 2 principal offices in Cheltenham and Staverton. It ranks 25th largest in the UK.

The firm boasts a full service offering and is both a leader in its regional market as well as a leader in several specialist areas nationally, sectors such as healthcare, dentistry and legal.

The role of Head of VAT includes, but is not limited to, the following key responsibilities:
• Oversight of all advice offered by the VAT team
• Develop and implement a strategic plan to proactively grow the size and revenue of the team
• Proactive business development – internally and externally
• Support the professional development of junior colleagues.

PROFILE
The new Head of VAT will be a qualified accountant, or CTA, with a proven track record of offering a broad range of excellent VAT advice and overseeing the growth of a VAT team. They will most likely be described as:

• Possessing very strong technical indirect tax advisory skills
• Having demonstrable ability to grow a portfolio of clients and a professional network
• Able to maintain high standards whilst working under pressure
• Showing initiative, and having the ability to solve problems and to work unsupervised
• Being a good communicator with outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Having the ability to coach, train and develop staff, and to manage and motivate them to meet time budgets
• Contributing to a friendly, supportive, collegial working environment
• Demonstrating a good humoured and flexible approach in the delivery of advice, which recognises the needs of the user

LOCATION OF THE ROLE
Most likely, after an introductory period, the new Head of VAT can expect to be able to work from home 2 or 3 days per week. Time in the office will likely be split between the Cheltenham and Staverton offices.

REMUNERATION
A broad salary range will be considered by Hazlewoods for the right appointment, as reflected across the current team of Directors and Partners at the firm. It is understood anyone choosing to join Hazlewoods can expect an uplift upon their current remuneration package. As a guide, the salary range will likely be between £70,000 and £110,000 p.a.
