Our client provides web based software into the education sector in the UK, Europe, Australia, and beyond. They are currently enjoying a period of growth with the launch of new services. Their offices are located in an idyllic rural location providing views and walks, however remote working will be required currently and they will consider this ongoing.

The Data Manager role

Our client is looking for an experienced Data Manager to fulfil a key role within the organisation. The Data Manager will be responsible for ensuring that data is accurate, current, relevant, and of a high quality. This will require managing projects and teams, as well needing to be hands-on in many areas.

There is a large technical component to the position. The Data Manager will be at home working with an RDBMS with a large number of tables both through data management tools but also directly using SQL to generate reports and perform data transformations. They will be comfortable with how data is structured and be able to design data management interfaces.

Data Manager responsibilities

  • Data ownership - managing the efficient collection and maintenance of data whilst ensuring its currency, quality, and accuracy.
  • Making recommendations and reporting to the management team.
  • Implementing and executing policies for effective data management.
  • Project and team management to achieve data management requirements.
  • Hands-on involvement in data management, including writing SQL queries and input into building data interfaces.

Candidate Requirements

  • 2+ years experience in a similar role
  • Strong RDBMS experience, with 3+ years of working with SQL
  • Qualities: organised, methodical, team player, technical and with an eye for detail
  • Excellent understanding of data management functions: collection, analysis, distribution, etc
  • An analytical mindset with problem-solving skills
  • A desire to be hands-on in the role
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Experience of creating data management interfaces with tools like Access would be beneficial, but not essential as the development can create interfaces.
  • Experience of working in the careers or education sector would be a bonus
