The Client & Requirement

Our client is an exciting start-up which has been established as a special purpose company to allow all GB energy suppliers to deliver the very highest standard of alternative home area network technological solutions and services. There is an excellent opportunity to recruit a Commercial Director for the organisation to lead the Commercial and Procurement teams in delivering niche equipment and services. The Commercial Director will need to be comfortable working in a complex environment, collaborative and collegiate, being responsible for managing all commercial aspects of key delivery contracts with major customers as well as other notable service provider contracts.

Role Purpose

  • Oversee the commercial and procurement teams in delivering a wide variety of complex commercially optimised equipment and services
  • Build professional relationships and manage stakeholders collaboratively to ensure confidence in effective commercial delivery in a cost effective and timely manner. (Through collaboration and professionalism build relationships and manage stakeholders to ensure they are and remain confident in the commercial delivery, in a cost efficient and timely manner)
  • Lead all commercial aspects of key delivery contracts with customers as well as other service provider contracts
  • Work closely with fellow Directors to ensure that delivery and service contracts meet the needs of the business and its customers
  • Ensure there is effective governance and commercial controls to execute and control the business

Key Expertise & Background

  • Successful Commercial Director experience in managing multi-vendor, complex IT, communications, infrastructure or technology delivery programmes, including cost control, budget management and commercial management of vendors
  • Post contract award optimisation and obligation experience is needed
  • Suitable candidates are likely to have been in similar senior commercial managerial roles within any of the following market areas: Energy Supply, Utilities, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Meter Manufacturing, Financial Services or Retail
  • Must have an ability to create and sustain partnership arrangements with key vendors
  • Good understanding of the UK energy, infrastructure or communications markets and ideally the developments within Smart Metering, communications, infrastructure, or a similar utilities background
  • Strong evidence of creating and leading multi-disciplined teams transitioning through change environments – an ability to collaborate and co-ordinate diverse teams and manage stakeholder relationships well
  • Experience of strategic thought process, able to develop the key drivers of the programme enabling the business to achieve its benefits, ensuring that measures of success are determined, measured and achieved
  • Ability to solve complex problems and manage risk to achieve the right outcome
  • MSc/BA in Business Administration, Finance or relevant field; MSc/MA is a plus
