Current Roles

Business Development Director

Salary: Circa £70,000 plus bonus plus benefits

Eduserv is an established IT services organisation with the mission to further extend the benefits of IT for education and the public good. It is dedicated to developing effective technology solutions that meet the needs of major government departments and agencies, other public sector organisations and universities. In the 10 years since being founded in 1999 Eduserv has grown to a team of over 100 and a turnover of £17M. The range of IT services continues to expand and the recent development of its own dedicated data centre confirms a high level of ambition and expectation.

As the business has grown, so has the technical sophistication of clients and the services provided to them. A consequence of this is that more technical/engineering input is required when discussing future requirements with new and existing clients and historically the CIO has provided much of this. This is not sustainable and the decision has been taken to appoint a new Business Development Director who will bring both technical and commercial capabilities.

This high profile role will lead a sales and account management team to take on the challenge of increasing sales of bespoke technical solutions in web development, managed web hosting, access and identity management and co-location services. The current sales income in this area comes almost exclusively from public and third sector clients in the UK including Central Government Departments, NHS Trusts, and large educational institutions.

Further to leading the direct relationships with key clients and prospects, there are opportunities through channels and partners that have been underdeveloped so this area is seen as a real opportunity. The Business Development Director's external engagement will also inform internal communication of market intelligence for product development and campaign proposals for specific sectors and clients.

To achieve this, the Business Development Director will need to build and maintain a sound technical understanding of Eduserv's solutions and capabilities and, critically, how they deliver value to clients.

In addition to leading the sales team the Business Development Director will have the additional responsibility of representing this discipline on the executive team and making a significant contribution to the direction of the company.

The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in sales and sales management gained in an environment where the decision making process is complex. Public sector experience would be an advantage but not essential as long as you have the interpersonal skills to adapt to the specific environment that prevails within in it.

Within a successful sales career, the specific areas of interest are:

- The ability to understand the technical capabilities and the associated costs of complex IT services, how they deliver value to clients and the ability to communicate this to clients and colleagues alike

- The successful development of sales teams.

Given the sophisticated technical environment at Eduserv the ideal candidate will have a technical or engineering background gained either through qualification or experience. Potential backgrounds include:

- Web hosting
- Content management
- ISP, Co-location or data centre businesses

Eduserv's not-for-profit constitution has created a unique culture which has led to the creation of a very successful business and there is a real commitment to see this further developed, building on the exceptional levels of commitment and integrity that have always been a feature of the organization.

The business is stable, supportive and friendly contributing to a working environment that is focused on growing sustainable trading rather than capital appreciation.
