Head of Building Services Engineering

Salary: To £70k, f/s pension, benefits

Our Client, The University of Oxford, has a large and sophisticated estate of 290 buildings with an extensive building services infrastructure and a long-term commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. Key features of the estate include complex laboratories, listed 'landmarks', award winning new buildings and ongoing growth plans, with capital investments of up to £90mill p.a.

They seek a seasoned, Chartered Building Services (BS) professional. Reporting to the Director of Estates, you will play a key role in providing strategic direction in the development, management and maintenance of the functional estate, as well as developing energy security and sustainability strategies for the long-term.

Managing an R&M budget of £9 million and a team of 12 (+ use of the DLO) you will work closely with the Capital Projects team and other Estates functions (Strategy/Sustainability/Conservation and FM) to deliver outstanding service to the University.

You will assess the structure, function and fitness of the Building Services team and undertake the 'change management' and professional development of the team that is required.

You will develop planned R&M programmes and strategies, as well as creating an M&E design philosophy to guide consultants and contractors for future new build and refurbishment projects, creating a 'best practice' culture.

Role Requirements:

In addition to being a Chartered Engineer, CIBSE member and graduate in a relevant BS discipline, you will have a substantial track record in design and operations - new build and refurbishment - for large estates, ideally including laboratory facilities / listed buildings, from within the Private OR Private & Public sectors. Your experience may be client-side, in consulting or contracting and ideally a combination of these disciplines.

You have leadership, 'change management' and proven budgetary skills / commercial acumen. You are innovative and proactive, whilst having the empathy, gravitas and team player attributes to carry the argument and motivate others.

You possess the knowledge of sustainable design in BS and energy efficiency to contribute to the long term aims of the University.
