Urban Design Director
Salary: Circa £75,000 Base Salary + Bonus + Benefits


The Company & Requirement

Our client is a £25m revenue size highly successful privately-owned planning and urban design consultancy. They continue to grow work and service lines throughout the UK with clients across the private and public marketplaces. Due to continued growth the business is now seeking to appoint a suitably experienced Urban Design Director to run their West Midlands work within this discipline.

The Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the preparation of conceptual urban designs, planning work, feasibility studies, masterplanning and development briefs
  • Take responsibility for projects from the earliest stages through to completion – co-ordinating project teams and project management
  • Co-ordinating and preparing appeals, including providing evidence at inquiries
  • Writing complex reports, interpreting data at ease and making clear and relevant recommendations
  • Dealing with difficult/complex issues, with the ability to lead on the management and development of key client contacts
  • Play an active role in staff development, management and training (mentoring where appropriate) including assistance with the day-to-day running of the office
  • Assist in supporting the urban design team nationally within the business through workload and resource planning, understanding local capacity and capability

Experience Needed

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree or Professional degree in landscape architecture, architecture, urban design, planning or similar discipline
  • Skilled in the following software: PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, Vectorworks, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Possess extensive local planning knowledge and client contacts
  • Solid project and staff management skills
  • Personable, approachable and confident in own abilities and confident bringing new ideas to the Company
  • Used to working autonomously with a strong ability to use own initiative
  • A team player, with experience of supporting and developing a team
