Principal Engineer (Finite Element Analysis)
Salary: Circa £65k Base Salary + Bonus + Benefits

Our client is a privately owned maritime and naval engineering consultancy with offices throughout the UK. The consultancy’s experience and knowledge is unsurpassed in their particular niche markets. The company’s latest contracts have won acclaim and have pushed vessel engineering and capabilities boundaries beyond previous industry limits. All of the company’s equipment is 100% mission critical and has a strong reputation for reliability in adverse offshore conditions.

The business offers a number of complimentary services which are always required as part of an equipment supply project. These include marine engineering, deck layout engineering, FE Analysis, naval architecture, as well as on-site inspection and equipment upgrade support.

The Requirement

There is a key requirement to recruit a suitably experienced Finite Element Analysis Engineer for the consultancy at a Principal level, to be based in their Gloucestershire office.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical assessment of complex structures and assemblies to ensure they satisfy client requirements.
  • Manage FEA analysis projects.  Ensuring that the results are delivered on time, to the cost allowed and to the appropriate quality criteria.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineering staff within the FEA Team to assist them in the development of the technical solution to analytical projects.
  • Provide a first point of contact for technical questions with clients during a project to ensure queries are closed out within the shortest possible timeframe.
  • Control external analytical resource to ensure the output is delivered on time, to the cost allowed and to the right quality.
  • Lead the technical assessment of complex structures and assemblies to ensure they satisfy client requirements.
  • Manage analysis projects.  Ensuring that the results are delivered on time, to the cost allowed and to the appropriate quality criteria.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Significant FEA analysis projects experience – ideally in maritime/naval markets.
  • Chartered Engineer with relevant Institution is desirable – a mechanical academic background.
  • FEMAP & Nastran analysis software packages experience.
  • In depth knowledge of stress analysis techniques.
  • Experience of steel fabrications and mechanisms.
  • Preparation and sign off of high-quality technical documentation.
  • Formal calculations, both structural and mechanical.
  • Working with external sub-contractors.
  • Presentation of results to the client.
  • Working within highly pressurised environments.
