Mechanical Design Engineer(s)

Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer(s)
Job Ref No: MDE/NG 1211
Location: Havant, Hampshire United Kingdom
Sector: Marine Equipment Design & Manufacturer
Salary: to £37K + benefits
Description:
Our Client, a long-established, leading manufacturer of marine equipment and systems for the 'Superyacht' and leisure craft sectors is growing their design capability for geared winch, steering, anchor handling and pulley block equipment and systems. With a £50m t/o and global presence, the business has a can-do culture, offering engineering excellence to its high profile customer base.

The Mechanical Design Engineer role offers full engagement in the design process, including a crucial customer-facing element, outline and detailed design of (principally) mechanical systems - with an emphasis on gears and drives as a key area. Products are high value / low volume assemblies, principally, which are engineered to exacting specifications.

This is a hands-on role with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), prototype building and testing and close liaison with UK and Far Eastern engineering product manufacturers to ensure design integrity. The Design Engineer(s) will also work with local subcontractors to ensure that delivery meets exacting (and often short lead-time) targets.

Most products are custom-made to a client specification, though there are also 'standard' ranges for the sub-superyacht, leisure craft sector.

Appropriate candidates will be graduates from within the mechanical disciplines with a range of professional experience and proven design capability. This experience will very likely have been gained in a Design Engineering role within the 'sports/racing' segment of the Automotive industry, from within the Marine sector itself or the Aerospace (low volume / high value assemblies) or potentially the Oil & Gas equipment sectors.

You will ideally have some experience of and certainly outline knowledge of gears/gearbox/drive equipment, as well as demonstrable detailed design experience in high value, low volume engineered equipment, including use of FEA techniques and packages.

You will be a dynamic and creatively minded individual, with confident communication skills and an eye for detail and thoroughness. In addition you will be ambitious to develop your own technical expertise and that of others, though mentoring and support of less experienced staff.

The company offers an excellent opportunity to operate in a customer focused, quality and engineering excellence driven business and to further your career through it.
