Our client is one of the word's largest scientific publishing companies. The business provides scientific and professional communities with superior specialist information that is produced by authors and colleagues across cultures in a nurtured collegial atmosphere. The company has the strategic requirement to hire a Lead Architect/Head of IT Architecture for their London office.

Key Responsibilities:

- Review the company's core global platform and create a blue-print for this i.e. websites/landing pages, to be built consisting of standard products together with components that are built in-house - this is a major IT project that is forecast to significantly increase business performance

- Make sure that all components selected for this will work well together and form a coherent and high performing platform

- Reduce the risk of dependencies on for instance MarkLogic by safeguarding the use of abstraction layers wherever necessary, related to the platform

- Translate use-cases into an overall architecture that is future-proof and bring the company both the performance and flexibility they are looking for from the platform

- It will be important for the Architect to be able to work well with developers and others, in order to successfully lead on the architecture strategy and convince colleagues of one's suggestions, plans and designs

Experience & Skills:

- Substantial experience in IT Architecture gained from within an international environment - it is likely that suitable candidates will have come from a development background

- Demonstrable experience as an architect for large websites (i.e. ideally, 1 Million page views per day sites)

- Experience in agile software development - a must have

- Degree or equivalent in the field of computer science, information systems or computer engineering

- In-depth knowledge of the market for web-products (WCM, Java, JSF CSS, portals, profiling, SEO, content delivery, reporting and authentication)

- In-depth knowledge of standards and protocols used for websites, certainly including XML, XQuery, XPath, and XSLT (knowledge of MarkLogic preferred)

- Proven experience in SOA and EAI scenarios
