Renewables is a new high-growth sector. Whilst there are some established players, it is a sector largely dominated by start-ups, new entrants and new technologies. It is also a field where there are relatively few experienced practitioners and therefore lateral thinking is required in order to bring new talent in to the sector with transferable skills from other related sectors.

Over recent years there has clearly been an influx of environmental and waste directives from Europe, with the emphasis thus far on areas such as recycling, high technology incineration and landfill management. With the industry concentrating on the development of increased sustainability in waste management practices, there is a greater emphasis on companies to operate to higher standards of professionalism. This has led to the spotlight focusing on regulation, policy, research and development, which in turn has generated a demand to recruit suitably qualified professionals.
